Where to eat in Sint Maarten

Where to eat in Sint Maarten and Saint Martin? There are so many restaurants on this island, there is no way we could ever visit all of them. But, neither can you, right? So, here I’m summing up some of our favorites on both sides of the island. I will separate the ones we enjoy having a lunch at and those we prefer for dinner. If you prefer to cook at home, or in your appartement, don’t worry, I’ve got your back!

Lunch

Photo of food from Philipsburg - Shieka's lolo - Sint Maarten on All Things Sint MaartenWhere to eat in Sint Maarten, when it comes to luch? Most places are beach clubs, so you can choose to eat your lunch at the beach. You don’t even have to leave your comfy beach chair! 🙂 I’m splitting it up in Dutch and French part, to make it easy for you to choose…

Dutch side

Well, Philipsburg has great places for drinks and food. One of the favorites is Ocean Lounge at Holland House. At the Green House and Aziana, next to the Marina, you can’t go wrong. I had my best Johnny Cake at Lay Back Beach Bar and Grill, so make sure to try one of those! If you’re looking for good local food and vibe in Philipsburg, you must visit Shieka’s in the Backstreet. I’m a fool for their combination of Jerk chicken, broccoli with carrots and bami! But the choice is all yours, visit if you want to experience something local.

If you’re headed for a day at the beach… Go to Cay Bay, or better known as  Indigo Beach, where you can lunch at Indigo Bay Beach Bar and Restaurant. They have incredibly good food, and great vibe! Even if you’re not up for a day at the beach, you can go and have your lunch there.

In Simpson Bay, you can watch some big yachts coming and going at Sint Maarten Yacht Club. This, while having a delicious lunch or snack. Another lovely place we love to (waterfront view) lunch is Skip Jack’s.

Dinghy’s Beach Bar at Simpson Bay Beach has great food you can eat at the beach, with a view, on a free chair! You can get there by going via Maho towards Beacon Hill.

One of our favorite weekend activities in Maho… A beach day, delicious lunch at Tortuga, killer view at Maho Beach and landing planes. The most unique experience in SXM!

French side

When we move over to the French side, it feels like there is even more choice…

In Marigot I discovered an amazing South African place, Au Passage Gourmand, with incredibly tasty food. Their fresh made pies with salad are not just healthy, but also to die for! They also serve breakfast the whole day, where you can choose all ingredients you like and make your own unique breakfast.

Photo of food from Grand Case - Cynthias talk of the Town - Saint Martin on All Things Sint MaartenIf you want to try great and cheap local (bbq) food in Grand Case… go to one of the lolo’s! My favorite is Cynthia’s Talk of the Town. They all do takeout as well, so you can get it ‘to go’ and just eat at the beach if you want to. (Of course, not if you rented chairs from a restaurant, they won’t like that, haha).

If you want a different vibe and food in Grand Case, try the healthy Mood or Java. I love those places and their food!

When in Orient… You truly have a huge problem if you don’t know how to make choices! 😉 There are so many good restaurants and beach bars, but my favorite beach bar, with phenomenal food is certainly the Aloha Beach Bar. Make a reservation, because it’s always packed!

If you’re staying at Oyser Bay or Dawn Beach, you can have a wonderful lunch at L’Oasis and also at L’Escale (name in Google Maps is La P’tite Pause). On their Facebook or Instagram, they usually post their specials every day, but their regular menu is delicious as well. This place is always filled with local people, and you know what that means. 🙂

Dinner

Where to eat in Sint Maarten, when it comes to dinner? Again, I’ll sum up some Dutch and some French part places, to make it easy for you to choose…

Dutch part

In Philipsburg, for dinner we like to go to the Green House – we just love their Bang Bang Shrimps. Aziana is a favorite when we feel like sushi, but also Dutch ‘Frikandel Speciaal’. We love de food at Chesterfields, it’s a bit more domestic food. Those three restaurants have a parking lot next door – if you go for dinner, they all give you a stamp for 2 hours free parking. Other hours spent there, are $2/hr. Make a reservation up front, just to be sure.

In Simpson Bay, there are a few favorites like Sale & Pepa (Italian food), Vesna (French and American dining) or Palapa Grill and Lounge.

In  Maho, there are some good restaurants. It depends on what food you like and your budget. There is Jax, a steakhouse, but also French dining at Le Moulin Fou is really nice. If you’re up for some Japanese food, check out Alina and for some good Italian food, go to Roma.

Photo of food from Oyster Pond - Restaurant LOasis - Saint Martin on All Things Sint MaartenIn Cupecoy, I adore Le Mediterraneen – their Tajines are amazing! If you like Thai food, in Jordan Village you’ll find Tao Garden. The Crying Tiger dish is delicious!!

French part

La Terrasse in Marigot, offers a phenomenal view and great food.

The restaurant Les Oliviers in Grand Case, is highly recommended if you enjoy French Mediterranean cuisine.

In Orient Bay, there are many good restaurants – L’Atelier, Le Piment, La Place. Make sure to always make a reservation for dinner, to have a table and to know if they’re open.

If you’re in Dawn Beach or Oyster Bay, you must try L’Oasis for pizzas and some great French specialties, Mama Pizza for best pizza on the island and BZH Creperie for great French crepes and other tasty dishes.

Groceries & produce...

Photo of fresh produce basket from Marigot - Golden Grove Farm - Saint Martin on All Things Sint MaartenMy favorite supermarket is SuperU, Hope Estate, French side. Some stuff I buy at Carrefour. They have the biggest collection of everything to choose from. Cost U Less is a good store as well, they have food, but they also have electronics and beach supplies.

Fresh produce

If you want fresh produce, with a good sustainable story, you go to Golden Grove Farm, Colombier, Marigot. Emmanuel, the owner, can tell you everything about every piece of fruit, veggie, chicken, egg etc. His weekly fresh market on Saturday offers a lot of fresh produce and you can order yourself a nice basket of seasonal fruit and veggies, for only €35. You can follow this farm on Instagram as well. I love their content!

On Facebook you can follow the SXM Fresh Harvest Foundation to learn more and to find out when and where the next farmers market on the Dutch side is. Ususally it’s The Country Club at Port de Plaisance, but sometimes they move it to another location.
